Kaddi  IMG_0068Roxanne, you are the owner of the nice, trendy and cozy B&B Rosier10 in Antwerp. You have run the B&B for four years now, right? Can you remember the time before having guests in Rosier10? What did you work before?
I was studying interior design at the academy in Antwerp till one year before the B&B started.

Why did you decide to start on your own business?
I had some project running during my last years of studies so decided to open up the b&b as a workspace and business card of my interior design.

When you decided to start your own B&B, what was the reaction of your family, your friends and how did you feel by taking this decision? It was‘ kind of‘ the idea of my dad, so the family was super excited. At first when I took the decision, it took me a year to finalize everything, and it was just in the few months before the B&B was almost open that I started telling people. Everyone was exited and of course curious :-)

And nowadays? How do you feel running your B&B? Do you have any further plans with Rosier10?
I started a second place across the street 2 years ago. There I have 4 apartments for longer stay and if I would find a nice building in the neighborhood, I would like to have a third B&B, or a really fancy up class one , or one with a small lunch place.

My family and I, we enjoyed every single minute in Rosier10. We also met an older couple who stayed in your B&B and they loved it, too. What is your secret regarding the interior design? I’m sure that you have a plan so that everybody feels comfortable!?!
ALL WHITE, OLD and NEW: that’s the key I think. It is a mix of everything. Some design stuff, some old ‚crap’, some creative things, art and pictures… so everyone can go home and remember at least one thing they liked. I wanted everyone to feel at home. to really have the experience that they are in their house away from home in Antwerp City.

IMG_0070What are the most frequently made mistakes when furnishing a flat?
I think: buying cheap stuff that you just like because you need it. Although I’m in love with Ikea, sometimes it’s better to sit on a cardboard box for a bit and save for the things you really like then to spend maybe one third and buy the better piece after all. For the interior design, I’m not the ‚risk taking girl‘. I will always keep it simple and change the look with small things instead off painting something or having red floors by example.

Where do you get your inspiration from?
Nowhere and everywhere. I thinks it’s all in my head… once I think about something I go and look for it on pinterest and in magazines. It’s less frequent that I see something on pinterest or in a magazine and decide to copy a look… Somethimes images give me a head start, like a hint, but the result is never the same thing.

Last but not least: Why should my readers absolutely visit Antwerp?
Because my b&B is there 😉 Haha
Antwerp is a very young, open minded, creative and a small city. Everything that I have learned I learned in the city. We have beautiful art, shops, interior design, restaurants (both for food and interior), nice people, markets, … all in walking distance. So you can see, live and love everything in Antwerp, just in a few days!

Roxanne, thank you SO MUCH for this lovely interview, it was a pleasure to stay in your B&B!
